The nominations for the 2019 fashion awards have already been announced and Daniel Lee has received an overwhelming 4 nods – 1 for the brand he works for, Bottega Veneta and 3 in individual categories. This is only 8 months after Daniel presented his first-ever collection for the world-famous Italian luxury brand.
In fact, ‘Bottega Effect’ is considered one of the biggest fashion stories of this year, with their handbags and woven leather sandals gaining rapid popularity in all parts of the world, including amongst the high street copy makers. Now everyone is keenly looking forward to who will be the designer of the year at the 2019 Fashion Awards, with many of them sure that the title will indeed go to Daniel Lee only.
Lee has been nominated in the categories of British womenswear designer of the year, accessories designer of the year as well as the overall designer of the year. As mentioned earlier, the label Bottega Veneta has been nominated for the award of brand of the year as well. Lee earlier used to work at Celine as director of ready-to-wear, alongside Phoebe Philo. This is the first time he has worked as a creative director.
Other names in contention
On the other hand is Jonathan Anderson who has received 3 different nominations for the second straight year, including for British womenswear designer of the year for the work he did for JW Anderson. His work for Loewe has gotten him the nomination for accessories designer of the year as well as designer of the year awards.
The British womenswear designer of the year award had gone to the Givenchy’s artistic director Clare Waight Keller last year. She had created the wedding dress of the Duchess of Sussex, who presented the award to her. It hasn’t been announced yet who will be handing out the awards this time around, but from what has been heard, Meghan will definitely not make an appearance.
The organiser of the event – the British Fashion Council is trying to rope in Rihanna for the proceedings, who might also bring some more stardust to the coveted event. She has her own label called Fenty, which has received its first-ever independent nomination in the urban luxe category. As you might recall, it was nominated in 2017 as Fenty Puma.
The well-known French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, who is behind those big Instagram hit designs like the 5.2 cm micro handbag and the giant straw hat is in the fray for the accessories designer of the year award as well as the brand of the year.
The Dior Mens artistic director Kim Jones was presented the BFCs inaugural Trailblazer award last year, and he has been recognized this time around too, receiving nominations for designer of the year, British menswear designer of the year and accessories designer of the year. While Naomi Campbell was handed the fashion icon award, Giorgio Armani was recognised with the outstanding achievement award during the earlier part of this year.
