After 6+ Months With Capture One, I’m Coming Back To Lightroom

If you have been reading the internet for the last year or two you would have been hard-pressed not to notice the uptick in photographers that were unhappy with Adobe Lightroom and it’s nearly constant performance issues. Unsurprisingly, this also is when we started to really see a rise in photographers denouncing Lightroom in favor of PhaseOne’s Capture One Pro, a longtime favorite of professional retouchers that hadn’t really caught on with the masses.

Day to Night: Making The Holy Grail of Time Lapses

There is nothing quite like watching a well-done time lapse video sequence. These simple, yet nuanced video clips are created by combining a ton of still frames at a constant interval over a set period of time and then combining them all on a video timeline to create a video clip. But in locations where the light changes rapidly, getting your exposure to be consistent throughout the time lapse can be difficult. As well for long time lapse videos, for example, those covering a period of time during the day and into the night, many photographers can struggle with how to shoot and process this sort of project.

Best Products to Maintain Concentration While Studying

Sometimes all of us face problems with concentration and focus during studies. This makes us really desperate because we need to do our best, but cannot give the task an attention it deserves. This can depend on the nutrients which improve the capacity of your brain. We know that nutrients we consume can provide us with useful substances and give more energy to be productive and stay focused. This article offers several tips on how to improve concentration and describes nutrients that serve this purpose.

Vitamin E

There is no need to explain that vitamin E is essential for human health. First, it was used for the treatment of various heart diseases and Alzheimers. Later, scientists came to a conclusion that it is an excellent anti-oxidant and this characteristic is widely used in the cosmetics industry. Shortly after, people started to use it for memory loss treatment.

Best Products to Maintain Concentration While Studying

According to EduBirdie, vitamin E protects the outer cover of nerves from oxidant stress. As a result, nerves are able to survive for a longer period of time, and you can better keep information in your memory. A daily dose of vitamin E for a healthy person is 200IU, while you may need 500IU if you’re stressed or have to perform tasks requiring high intellectual activity. For example, if you study at a university. If you want to improve concentration and focus, you need to replenish vitamin E in your body. Among the most well-known sources of vitamin E are broccoli, spinach, avocado, eggs, green olives, brown rice, almond, onion, carrot, and pumpkin.

Vitamins of the Group B

Vitamins of this group also contribute to focus and concentration. The vitamins B (B6, B9, and B12) are known for their ability to add energy, alertness, and focus. It is a king among the vitamins of the group B: it helps generate serotonin – a killer of depression. It is the best vitamin among the vitamins for memory and focus. When the level of serotonin decreases, a depression starts. Also, the level of serotonin is responsible for the movement of information in your brain from short-term to long-term memory. In addition, vitamin B6 lowers the level of homocysteine which is responsible for memory loss, increased fatigue, and various heart diseases. Normally, people need 1.6-2 mg of it daily. As it is a water-soluble vitamin, you need to replenish its sources in your body every day.

Best Products to Maintain Concentration While Studying

You can improve the level of vitamin B6 by using balanced nutrition. Its well-known sources are beef, poultry, shellfish, eggs, and dairy products. Spinach, cereals, buckwheat, and rice are perfect supplements for focus and concentration.

Vitamin B9 or folate is responsible for the memory function of our brain. We need it to be able to properly retrieve important information stored in our brain. A recommended daily dose of vitamin B9 is 400 mg. This dose of the vitamin B9 provides an optimal learning ability as when we study we need to memorize a lot of information and then reproduce it. We can derive it from avocado, orange, Napa cabbage, spinach or green peas.

The vitamin B12 is responsible for the synthesis of DNA, regulation of nerve transmissions, and producing new blood cells. Actually, we don’t need a lot of vitamin B12 – the daily norm is 3 mg. If you eat 6-8 oz of meat (1 chicken breast) every day you don’t need to add anything more to your diet to receive daily norm of vitamin B12. If you don’t eat meat, you can replenish its reserves in your body by adding 2 eggs to your ration or eat more cheese and sea products. By eating foods that improve memory and concentration, we can significantly improve the functioning of our brain.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is also on the list of the most effective nutrients contributing to better brain focus and concentration. In the past it was used to help children with ADHD: it helped them to focus better on completing tasks and concentrate longer on subjects. This also can help to study well if you take appropriate supplements. It participates in the process of producing the norepinephrine which controls attention. Besides, norepinephrine helps to protect our cells from various stresses, including alcohol, oxidative stress and mental strain. You can receive it from natural sources, like liver, lemons, oranges or take supplements in the form of pills. Among concentration tips, one is to maintain a daily regime and consult a doctor before starting to take new supplements. Do remember that excessive doses of vitamins may cause harm to your body as well as their shortage. You should follow the recommendations of your trusted doctor to stay healthy.

Picking the Best Equipment for Designers and Photographers

For designers and photographers, it is all about the art. And it doesn’t stop there. It’s about how best to bring that art to life in a way that people will love and embrace it.

For this to happen, both designers and photographers need to have the best equipment that there is to be able to deliver their work. As such, it is not about just buying any equipment that there is in the market but making sure that you have the best there is to allow you deliver the aesthetic and technical requirements of your client’s work in both a professional and timely manner. So, what are some of the best equipment that designers and photographers need to have for them to run a sustainable business?

Picking the Best Equipment for Designers and Photographers

Computers

For most of us that are not into photography or design work, any laptop that functions is good enough for what we do. However, this is never the case with creatives as the designers’ computer specs are different.
While it’s the camera that helps get the image, it is the computer that allows you to not only make the needed edits but communicate with clients as well. It’s therefore important that you invest in a quality computer that is fast and has enough storage capacity.

And because it is your most valuable asset as a creative, choosing the best computer can enable you to work efficiently on your client’s work.

Camera

Every profession has its own set of tools needed. While to any normal persona a camera is a tool to take photos of memorable moments, for most designers and photographers, it is what puts their food on the table.

Choosing a camera should be dependent on the type of work that you do. That is to say, the needs of high-end designers and photographers will differ from the needs of say a beginner or mid-level professional.

When it comes to buying a camera, consider the weight for ease of carrying, availability of the lenses you want to use, comfort in your hands among other things.

Storage – Hard Disk

If there is one thing that we can’t stress enough is the storage capacity that you have. While your computer should have enough storage capacity, you just never know when your computer might choose to crash or catch a virus that may end up destroying the whole machine.

You, therefore, need to have both online and offline storage for your work. Any graphic designer and photographer know the value of having a backup storage area such as a hard drive. This ensures that you always have your work backed up somewhere else that is not just the computer you are using.

Final Thoughts

While the three equipment mentioned above are crucial for both a designer and =photographer, they are not everything that those professional need. Still, there is a need for creatives to choose their equipment wisely.
It’s never really about the most expensive equipment but more about the features, functionality, and ease of enabling you to get the job done.

VPN and One Backpack Is All You Need To Travel

When we start packing for a trip, it quickly seems to become a disaster. We plan to take one suitcase only, but end up with 2 smaller and 3 bigger ones. Doesn’t it sound so familiar? In most cases, this happens because people don’t know those few essential things they really need on a trip. That’s why they start packing all possible stuff they might need on a plane, in a train, or in a hotel, etc. The problem is that if you’re not going to tour all over the world, you can bring one backpack only. The secret is to pack those things, which you’re definitely going to use on the trip.

VPN and One Backpack Is All You Need To Travel

We’re going to start with the most important item, which is equally essential no matter which country or city you’re going to. And this is your mobile devices. Pack your tablet, smartphone, chargers, headphones, and similar stuff together, preparing them in advance. What does this mean? You have to install a VPN service even if you’re sure you won’t need it in the country you’re traveling to. A VPN is the best and the easiest way to protect your device when using a public network. So, do it. Any traveler should know that he or she should use a VPN. Ok, so software has been managed. What else should you pack?

Backpack Packing Hacks

Practice shows that you always need less than you pack. So, if you’re not sure whether you take enough stuff or too much stuff, just take twice as less as you were planning. That’s probably the number of things you have to take.

VPN and One Backpack Is All You Need To Travel

The following list shows some of the usual and obligatory things to take to any trip.

  • Bag cover. It is needed to make your backpack waterproof. If it rains you don’t want your stuff to get wet.
  • Raincoat. Not only your backpack, but you don’t want to get wet either.
  • A plastic or a stainless steel water bottle. There will be many times when you will need to drink while exploring the cities, nature, and walking several miles a day.
  • Laundry bag. You need an extra bag (a small one) to pack your dirty clothes in it, or to do a laundry if you’re going to.
  • Clothes. Create a capsule minimalist wardrobe of several essential items to easily combine and layer them.
  • Snacks. Pack a set of ready to take snacks to save money while being hungry at the airport. As the food in touristy areas is usually very overpriced. So, have at least a couple of energy bars.
  • First aid kit. Getting sick when you’re traveling can ruin the whole trip. So, gather those medications and vitamins you might need on your journey.
  • All your devices should also be properly packed to avoid damage. If you are visiting a country with strict regulations, you should consider deleting any movies or music from your devices if you are not sure it is legal there. As for the VPN, it seems to be obligatory in some regions. For more info, search the web.

Hopefully, these tips will help you travel light, save money, and make your trip a little bit more comfortable.

Review: Panasonic GH5s (One of My Favorite Micro Four Thirds Cameras)

When the Panasonic GH5s was first announced, I wasn't very sure what to think of it. Sure, Panasonic was going after the video market and the high ISO market in the same way that Sony was. But for years, I wasn't always too keen about Panasonic's cameras. Over the past few years though, I've grown more of a soft spot for them as their performance has dramatically improved in a number of areas. With the Panasonic GH5s the name of the game is high ISO output. It has a 10.2MP Four Thirds sensor at the heart, weather sealing, dual card slots, touch screen, headphone jacks, microphone jacks, PC sync port, hot shoe, and dials galore that many photographers will love and appreciate. Yet for years still, folks continue to discount Micro Four Thirds and what's possible.
