An Introduction to Shooting Portraits in Natural Light

Photographing portraits using natural light as the sole light source have become such a rage lately that some photographers have branded themselves as "Natural Light Only Photographers." While you can certainly create some stunning images with the proper use of only natural light, understanding how light behaves and being able to harness light in all of its forms, natural or otherwise, will help shape you into a better, more complete photographer.

5 Reasons Why You Need a New Kitchen

Designer kitchens are popping up all over television, social media, and the internet as one of the must-have elements of any Pinterest-worthy home. But still, so many homes have drab, outdated kitchens in desperate need of a makeover. Hence, a kitchen remodel is one home renovation project you’ll never forget.

5 Reasons Why You Need a New Kitchen

The kitchen truly is the gathering place of the home, where family and friends come together to eat, bond, and share quality time. If you’re thinking about remodeling your kitchen, read on for 5 convincing reasons to start your remodel today.

1. Love the Space You’re In

Though there are a whole slew of reasons to remodel a kitchen, the ultimate reason comes down to this: a kitchen remodel allows you to truly love the space you’re in. Every family needs to eat at least a few times a day, and a fresh, modern kitchen gives you a chance to do it in style. If you love the way your kitchen looks, you’ll be more likely to spend time there, cooking and making memories with those you love.

2. Add Value to Your Home

Any remodeling project is a chance to add value to your home, and a kitchen remodel is no exception. In fact, a kitchen remodel will add more value to your home than just about any updating project you could possibly do. So if you think there’s ever a chance you could be selling your home in the future, you’ll be able to benefit from your remodel once more.

3. Boost Energy Savings

Kitchen appliances are one of the main contributing factors to your utility bills, so if you’re looking to lower bills and do good for the environment, a kitchen remodel is a great way to go about it. Choose modern appliances that are energy-efficient and eco-friendly, and you’ll see a significant drop in your monthly bills.

4. Increased Functionality

The beauty of a kitchen remodel is that you get the chance to change anything you don’t like about your existing kitchen. Do you wish you had a place to put your knives? Install a custom knife drawer right next to the center island. Always wanting to fill pots without leaving the stove? Add a pot filler in a convenient location. The possibilities are endless when you’re in control.

5. Enjoy Change

For some people, the best part of a kitchen remodel is simply the change of scenery. A new kitchen is a great way to get newfound pleasure out of day to day life. You’ll get a sense of excitement every time you sit down at the table to sip your morning coffee or join your spouse to prepare dinner at night.

Travel Hacks To Save You Money

If you’re a frequent traveller then you’ll know two things: travelling can be stressful, and it can be expensive. Costs can quickly accumulate on the road. Between expensive flights, costly hotels, day activities and eating out almost every night, that hole in your pocket will threaten to burn up your entire pair of pants fairly quickly. But like any endeavor in life, travelling is as expensive as you make it, especially these days. With a little bit of saviness and the help from the internet, there are a number of different actions you can take to get the maximum quality of travel while keeping your costs down. We’ll take a look at a few of them below.

Travel Hacks To Save You Money

Ditch the hotels

In 2019 there’s absolutely no reason that you have to stay in a hotel. The hotel industry itself is an archaic one and terrible value for money, and the only reason you should check yourself into one is if you enjoy the status of a suite, or find that absolutely every other available accommodation is booked. Instead of hotels, you have a wealth of other options before you. Airbnb is a great alternative which lets you stay in the most amazing local accomodation for a fraction of the price of a hotel room. Not only do you get a comfortable space, but you also get a cultural lesson by immersing yourself in the home of someone else. Hostels are a quick fix if you just need a bed for a few days, and Couchsurfing is a great resource if you want to meet local people and stay for free.

Brush up on your passenger rights

How many times have you arrived at the airport only to discover that your flight is delayed for a couple of hours, or worse, cancelled completely? We’re guessing the answer is at least a handful of times. If you find yourself in this situation again, it pays to have a basic understanding of your passenger rights. Literally, it pays. That’s because of the flight compensation law that states that every airline that causes a significant delay has to compensate affected passengers between €250 to €600, regardless of the initial cost of your flight. It doesn’t matter if it’s Emirates or a budget airline like Norwegian Air, compensation is guaranteed if it’s the airline’s fault and the delay is severe enough.

Never eat on a high street

If you find yourself in a city center of a popular city, then it’s likely that all of the restaurants you encounter within that center are going to have their prices hiked way up to milk tourists of every last cent they have. To eat at cheaper, more local diners, move further outwards from the city center. A good rule of thumb to work with is called the “five block rule.” This rule states that you should avoid all businesses within five blocks of a densely packed tourist area. Once you move five or so blocks away these areas, you should see the crowds thin out and prices drop dramatically. Of course there are exceptions to every rule – Barcelona, for example, has such a big center that five blocks over will be just as pricey – but in general it’s worth sticking to.

3 Must Have Gadgets You’ll Never Want to Live Without Again

Technology in the modern world is all about making your life easier. Lucky for you, various gadgets are invented every day to make our lives a little less stressful. Some are interesting and then there are the ones you simply MUST try. We’ve compiled a list of the devices you’ll never want to live without again.

3 Must Have Gadgets You’ll Never Want to Live Without Again

Clip-on Book Lamp

If you love reading you don’t want anything ruining the plot for you. But perhaps you share a room with your partner who can’t sleep with the lights on. How will you read that chapter you’ve wanted to get through all day? That’s where a clip-on book lamp comes in.

 What is it?

A clip-on book lamp is a small portable lamp that has a clip at the bottom. It clips onto the top of your pages to illuminate the text below.

 Why do You Need it?

Have you ever tried to read a book while holding a flashlight? It’s not comfortable, right? You’re already holding your heavy book upright so an additional item like a flashlight will tire out your arms quickly. Clip-on book lamps are light in weight and they’re small so you can take them with you anywhere so you never miss out on reading that chapter again.

Chromecast

Are you addicted to the internet? Watching YouTube videos on your phone for hours on end can take its toll on your wrists. Also, you want to watch in HD, right? So why not watch everything on your TV? Chromecast allows you to do just that.

 What is It?

Chromecast is an adapter you plug into the back of your TV and it connects to the internet wirelessly. It allows you to connect your smartphone to your television so you can watch via your phone’s apps and enjoy content such as YouTube videos or even Netflix programs.

Why Do You Need This?

Connecting your smartphone to the TV allows you more viewing options and you control what you’re watching from the comfort of your couch. Your smartphone acts like a remote control, so you can pause, play, rewind and fast forward anything you’re streaming.

Quiet Garbage Disposal

Garbage disposals tend to make the most horrendous noises. It can be bothersome especially because kitchens tend to create echoes that will enhance those noises even more. Having a quiet garbage disposal is something anyone could appreciate.

What is it?

A garbage disposal is usually integrated into the bottom of the sink. It’s a blade that spins to cut up garbage into little pieces so it’s easy to dispose of. Most of these devices make terrible noises when you throw your garbage down the chute but a quiet garbage disposal runs quietly.

Why Do You Need This?

Let’s face it, everyone needs motivation to tidy the kitchen and grinding noises just won’t do. Having a silent garbage disposal allows you to listen to your favorite music while you’re cleaning up the kitchen. It also means you won’t wake up everyone when working in the kitchen early in the morning or late at night.

Conclusion

You already have a few gadgets in your home. You probably can’t live without them and you’ll feel the same about these once you try them. Welcome to 21st century living.

5 Qualities Your iPhone Case Needs

Your iPhone is a delicate and expensive piece of equipment that you use hundreds of times throughout the day – you want to ensure that it is kept safe and looks great. This is why you need a high-quality iPhone case…

5 Qualities Your iPhone Case Needs

But which is the best? If you buy a great option like Velvet Caviar iPhone cases, you’ll find that you get a host of qualities that help to make your experience as great as possible.

Here is a closer look at the five qualities your iPhone case needs and what you should look for when you shop for your next iPhone case.

A Beautiful Design

First and foremost, you want to make sure that the case you choose reflects your personality and tastes. The average person picks up their phone an estimated 80 times a day, so you want to ensure that you like the look of it!

There are a huge range of designs available on the market, so you should spend some time searching for one that you like. There are ones with illustrations, abstract designs, geometric shapes, solid colors… There really is an amazing variety and you’ll be sure to find something great!

Raised Lip

iPhones are so adored in part because they offer some of the best screens on the market. These screens are protected by very durable glass, but they are still susceptible to cracks and scratches, which can really limit the enjoyment that you get from your phone.

This is why you will want to go for a case that protects your screen as much as possible. Many options will have a raised “lip” that means your phone is protected should it be placed face-down on a surface.

A Strong Material

Of course, you will want to make sure that your iPhone case can absorb the shock of an accidental fall. The technology has evolved a great deal over the years, and by now there are amazing materials that can absorb and distribute shock to protect your phone and its delicate components.

You should spend time researching which materials are the best and the reviews that customers have left on certain phone cases. If your case cannot offer adequate protection for your iPhone, then it won’t be of much use to you! You want a case that will protect your investment and help you to enjoy your iPhone for many years to come.

A Light Option

Some cases are bulkier than others, and you will have your own preferences in terms of the look and feel. It is important, though, that regardless of the size your case is not too heavy. A heavy case can be unwieldly and make your iPhone a pain to carry and use.

You want to find a case that strikes a balance between weight and strength. This is why it is worth investing the necessary amount to get a case that has been engineered using the best materials.

A lot of effort goes into keeping iPhones as slim and light as possible – it’s a shame to spoil that with a bulky case.

The Right Openings

Lastly, you will want to make sure that you’re purchasing the right case with the right openings. It’s surprising just how many cases there are on the market and with a range of iPhones available out there, you’ll want to make sure you get the one that is right!

We hope that these tips have helped you to get a better idea of the case that you should be looking for. These are the key qualities that you will need to cover, so good look in your search!

How To Care For And Clean Your Floors

Cleaning the floor is not rocket science. However, it needs to be done with a high level of care. That’s because, if not done right, you might end up ruining it. Depending on the type of floor, this can set you back a huge amount in repairs. To avoid a scenario where a ruined floor hurts your budget, here is how to take care of and clean your floors.

How To Care For And Clean Your Floors

1. Use the right tools

Floors are not the same, and require different tools to clean them. Using the wrong tools on your floor may clean it, but end up ruining it in the long run. Luckily, information on the most ideal cleaning equipment for different floor types is easily available online. For instance, by using a floor cleaning review such as Squiffy clean, you can learn a lot about different floors and the methods that can be used to clean them. Check Squiffyclean.com for more details on how to go about cleaning your floor with the right tools.

2. Clean it regularly

The best way to take care of your floor is to clean it often. When you clean your floor on a regular basis, you avoid a situation where hard to remove stains accumulate. This means that the cleaning remains light, while keeping it sparkling clean. This slows down the process of wear and tear that comes with heavy scrubbing. In essence, regular light cleaning can save you lots of money in the long run, in terms of floor repair and replacement costs.

3. Have a no-shoes-in-the-house rule

This may not be very practical in an office setup, but it can work at home. With such a simple rule, you can avoid most of the stubborn stains that may require you to do heavy cleaning on your floor. That’s because, most stubborn stains usually come from dirt collected by shoes as we go about our daily business.  As such, with a no-shoes-in-the-house rule, you will quickly realize that, all you need to do is a quick vacuum cleaning, and the floor will be looking glam. This saves you time, and your floor gets to serve you for longer without the need for heavy maintenance.

4. Make use of a floor mat

Using a floor mat is a great way to take care of your floor. That’s because, you keep the floor fully protected from dirt, especially sticky stains that may require you to scrub the floor more often. Besides, it is easier to clean a floor mat. You can take it out, scrub and vacuum clean it as often as you want. This may depreciate it, but the floor remains intact. Floor mats are affordable and readily available, and far easier to replace than having to repair floors due to regular cleaning. On top of that, you can always change it to match whatever interior design themes you choose at a moment’s notice. This gives you a clean floor, and an aesthetically pleasing living or office space. It’s a worthy investment.
