I’m a Street Photographer and Gave Being an Instagram Boyfriend a Shot

People travel all over the world to visit cool destinations. While in previous eras people were more than happy to get some snaps on a disposable camera, today holiday goers take their photography very seriously. Social influencers are now a thing and the everyday person is cashing in. That’s why you will often see the fashionable, beautiful girlfriend review her iPhone and promptly tell her boyfriend to “take the photo again!” I wanted to see what that would be like. Now I’d like to say that to become an Instagram boyfriend I met the woman of my dreams. We both fell in love and embarked on an amazing journey of emotional growth and development. The truth is we worked with a highly talented, professional model to build this piece. Katie Hodgson is a UK based model who was more than willing to be my muse for what turned out to be a grey, rainy day in London - shocker!

Review: Panasonic S1R (The DSLR Shooter’s Mirrorless Camera)

When the Panasonic S1R was announced last year, I was very excited about the fact that a company was creating a real professional competitor to Sony. But then I held it in my hand and grew concerned about its size. It's big--and that's the antithesis of what mirrorless cameras are supposed to be. When the time came around for me to test the camera, I realized that the Panasonic S1R reminds me of a world that I left behind years ago: the DSLR world. This camera is designed to get those who love big, beefy DSLRs over to mirrorless. It's less designed for the Leica M style users that I relate to much more. What you're getting from the Panasonic S1R though is some very good performance from the system. But I'm not quite sure that it's justified by the size.

7 Ways to Enhance The Presence of Your Corbusier Chaise Lounge

Every piece of furniture placed in any interior design only reaches its true potential when it is complemented by the right décor, accessories, and ambiance. All of these things help enhance its presence. Since the Corbusier Lounge Chair is one of the most iconic pieces of furniture in history – and even today – it’s safe to assume that it needs sufficient visual intervention to showcase its true potential. If you don’t know how, here are 8 ways to enhance the presence of your LC4 recliner;

1.Lush planters

7 Ways to Enhance The Presence of Your Corbusier Chaise Lounge

Accompanying your Corbusier Chaise Lounge with a set of potted indoor plants is a beautiful way to enhance its presence. The lush green of the plant leaves will contrast the leather upholstery of the recliner in an interesting fashion. This image showcases the perfect way you can set up such an arrangement. Just make sure you do it in a sunny spot so that the plants don’t eventually wilt away.

2.Floor lamp

7 Ways to Enhance The Presence of Your Corbusier Chaise Lounge

A modern floor lamp is an excellent accessory to enhance the presence of your Corbusier Chaise Lounge. However, there are a few things that you have to consider while choosing the perfect lamp: it must not show-off or undermine the design of the recliner in any way and it must be understated in design. The minimalistic piece featured in this image is an excellent example of such a selection – neat, straight-laced, and complementing the stately aura of the chair perfectly.

3.Gallery wall

7 Ways to Enhance The Presence of Your Corbusier Chaise Lounge

The Corbusier Chaise Lounge is a statement accent piece. Its upholstery and design are deliberately eye-catching, so that the eye can never just skim over it. This is why it needs an interesting backdrop to feel truly wholesome – as if it belongs in the place. A gallery wall is a great way to do this. The gallery wall that features the archives of modern architecture in this image are a beautiful way to set off the mustard yellow upholstery of the LC4 recliner – they both enhance its presence and evoke the right ambient mood.

4.Furry throws

7 Ways to Enhance The Presence of Your Corbusier Chaise Lounge

If you think that the Corbusier Chaise Lounge is too sleek an addition to your casual and homely interior design, then you can get the best out of it by throwing a fluffy throw over it. It would add a comfortable and cozy aura to its austere modern presence while matching well with your home-oriented theme. The arrangement featured in this image is quite an excellent way to achieve this effect wholesomely.

5.Vintage contrast with a storage trunk

7 Ways to Enhance The Presence of Your Corbusier Chaise Lounge

Sometime, you need a stark contrast between two objects for one (or both) of them to stand out. Since the Corbusier Chaise Lounge is such an iconic piece of modern history (sleek, cleanly designed, elegant, and sophisticated), you’ll need something old-school to make its presence pop! A vintage storage trunk is an excellent choice. As you can see in the image, it perfectly complements and sufficiently contrasts the modernity of the recliner while adding a lot of charisma to the ambiance.

6.An area rug

7 Ways to Enhance The Presence of Your Corbusier Chaise Lounge

A gorgeous area rug could be a great way to enhance the presence of your Corbusier Chaise Lounge. But it’s important to note that the type of area rug you choose is important here. Since you want to highlight the design of the recliner, something oriental in bold colors would be an excellent choice. Alternately, you can also choose bright neutral colors such as brown, grey, and beige in any oriental design. Both will make the austerity of the chaise shine.

7.Matching upholstery cushions

7 Ways to Enhance The Presence of Your Corbusier Chaise Lounge

A good way to both personalize your Corbusier Lounge Chair while enhancing its presence in your homes is by loading it up with a customized cushion that either matches or contrasts the upholstery. Since the anthropometry of the LC4 is very compact, you cannot really feature more than a single cushion, so you’ll have to make it out while choosing the design. If the upholstery of the chaise is unpatterend, you can choose cushions with patterns and vice versa.

So these are some clever ways that you can make your Corbusier Chaise Lounge stand out in diverse home interior types. Now you can bring out the best in your LC4 recliner with a few right props!

10 Key Tips for Choosing Quality Outdoor Furniture

If you have a sad-looking backyard space, why not turn it into a beautiful patio? It will serve as a great spot for socializing and relaxation. Furthermore, it’s a great investment – it has the potential to add 8% to 12% of value to your home and over 80% of ROI for you.

However, keep in mind that beautiful patios don’t only have good-looking furniture. It also has quality outdoor furniture pieces.

The quality is what will matter in the end because if it’s damaged right away, your guests won’t be able to enjoy it. You won’t get a good return on your investment, as well.

Take a look at our tips on choosing the right patio furniture below to maximize your investment.

10 Key Tips for Choosing Quality Outdoor Furniture

Decide What You Want to Use the Patio For

The type of furniture you’re going to buy will depend on what you want to use them for.

Those who like to host barbecue and dinner parties should get one or more outdoor tables. Homeowners who want a space to hang out in with the whole family will find a couch and other comfortable porch furniture pieces more fitting.

For socializing and drinks, make sure you have ample seating around a focal point, like a bonfire. This will allow for natural interactions. Then, spread some side tables all over for drinks and snacks.

2.Measure Your Patio Space

Then, make sure you have the actual space for the activities you want.

Will one huge table fit in your patio? If not, consider getting a couple of small tables instead. You’ll have more flexibility in terms of placement.

For large spaces, you can set up zones with different purposes. One zone can be for relaxation and reading, while another zone can be for social drinking. You can even set up a zone for kids if your patio is big enough.

Estimating is not good enough. Take actual measurements so you can envision how a piece of furniture will fit into your space. While looking through your options, make sure to look at their measurements, too.

3.Consider the Weather

What’s the weather like in your location? This will determine what type of materials you should choose.

Is rainfall a normal or rare occurrence? If it’s the former, make sure you get quality outdoor furniture that can withstand getting wet often. If you also deal with storms, get something heavy so winds won’t be able to carry it.

If you’re expecting it to always be sunny, get some shades so you don’t cook under the sun while lounging. If it’s a durable structure, you won’t have to worry about your furniture getting wet in light rain, as well.

4.Choose the Right Shade

While we’re on this topic, let’s discuss more the importance of getting the right shade.

Getting some shade can also help your furniture last longer. It can act as a shield against the sun, which promotes fading, or the rain, which can stain some outdoor materials.

For pool lounges, a freestanding patio umbrella would look great. It’s portable, too, so it’s easy to hide in the basement when a storm hits.

A shade connected to the house will help in making it look like it’s still part of the house. This will encourage guests and family members to hang out in the patio.

You can also get creative to improve the aesthetics of your patio. Pergolas are always a good choice and fancy canopies can make a space look charming.

5.Prioritize Durability

Patio furniture is going to be outside every day. You’re subjecting it to rain, extreme heat, humidity, dirt, and a lot of other natural elements that will damage your normal indoor furniture.

For this reason, look for outdoor patio furniture made from durable materials.

Steel, wrought-iron, resin, and wood are some of the best materials if you’re looking for durability.

Aside from the materials, though, you also have to look at its construction. Don’t buy wooden furniture with the parts glued together. Do look for pieces made from dense woods like cedar and redwood.

Aluminum will also last for a long time, but they’re lightweight. High winds and storms can cause damage to this material by knocking it over. Be sure to secure them in such situations or bring them inside your house if you choose this material.

When buying rugs, choose the one that’s quick-drying and less prone to fading. Shop for outdoor rugs. These have the specific purpose of staying outside for long periods.

6.Consider Its Maintenance Needs

For the same reason stated above, your outdoor furniture is going to get dirty more often. Cleaning all your furniture pieces is going to take a lot of time. If you don’t have the time to give your furniture the amount of care it needs, choose one that doesn’t need much attention.

Wooden furniture pieces look great, but they require regular sanding and sealing. Wrought-iron and steel furniture don’t need much attention either. Still, you have to repaint and reseal them once in a while, too, to avoid rust.

Outdoor materials like resin or aluminum don’t need too much care. A quick wipe now and then to get rid of dirt will make them look polished again.

Materials that need the least amount of care would be plastic and PVC. They don’t need repainting and resealing, and they’re pretty cheap, too.

7.Make Sure It’s Comfortable

A patio should be inviting; people should feel drawn to it by instinct. Prioritize comfort over looks, although you’ll find some pieces with both if you look hard enough.

Adding cushions and pillows would make any seating more comfortable. It’s also a huge plus that they make chairs more appealing, too.

They can come in any fabric you find comfortable and any design you find attractive. Of course, make sure the fabric is for the outdoors – it should resist mildew, be not prone to fading, and quick-to-dry.

Recliners and chaise lounges both look great and comfortable. If you like taking a nap outside, get a daybed or a hammock. Throw in a few pillows and you’ll find yourself hanging out in the patio more often than not.

8.Keep the Design Consistent

The indoors of your house should flow into your patio seamlessly. To achieve this effect, keep your patio design consistent with the rest of your house.

Choose contemporary pieces for a contemporary home; likewise, extend your minimalist theme to your patio if you’re going for minimalism in your house.

This also makes it easy for guests and family members to consider as a part of the house. As a result, they will gravitate towards it as they would to your living room. After all, it’s a space for them to hang out – make sure they use it.

9.Take Into Account Your Storage Space

Although you can keep your patio furniture out year-round, it’s better to stash them away in the off-season.

This explains why you need to consider your storage space when buying outdoor furniture. A large storage shed is ideal, but your garage or basement will work as they’re big enough to accommodate large pieces of furniture.

If you don’t have any space for storage, don’t let it surprise you if your outdoor stuff’s lifespan decreases.

Outdoor furniture lasts longer when you store them away in months you don’t use them much. It’s unlikely you’re hosting a dinner party in the middle of the winter, for example. Why not keep them safe from the elements during that time?

If there’s a piece of furniture you use often, no matter the weather or season, then leave that out for your use.

10.Wait for Huge Discounts

The best time to buy patio furniture is at the end of the summer months when fall is fast approaching. If you’re not in a rush to decorate your patio for this summer, consider waiting until the end of the season to get the furniture you want at a lower price.

If that’s not an option, comb through the garage sales and thrift stores in your area if you’re up for some restoration projects. You can score great pieces here that won’t break the bank, but you’ll have to put in some elbow grease to restore them to their former glory (or not if they’re in good shape).

You also have to ensure the furniture is free from rotting or infestation before you bring them home. Change the cushions and pillows to new ones to ensure safety and update their looks at the same time.

Get Quality Outdoor Furniture for Your Patio

No matter what activities you want to do in your patio, getting quality outdoor furniture is the key to enjoying them. Follow our tips above to know how to choose and how to enjoy using outdoor furniture pieces for many years.

It doesn’t stop here! Keep your patio clean and beautiful – learn more tips and tricks for your home by reading our other posts today.

Top Beauty Hacks

The universe of health and beauty products is expansive. The infinite lineup of brands and types of items can be intimidating. It’s nice to have so many options and choices when it comes to your personal look and style, but it can also be confusing when it comes to choosing the best items. Here are some tips for finding great products that guarantee great quality so you can create your desired aesthetic.

Top Beauty Hacks

Lashes

They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, so why not dress yours up? From traditional mascara to faux mink lashes, there are many ways to achieve the long-lash ideal. Most people know about the types of mascaras on the market, but false lashes aren’t as well-known despite their many benefits. Eyelash extensions are a great way to protect your natural lashes, keeping them healthy while still boasting enviably long eyelashes.

Nails

Nail care is important; many people see your nails throughout the day and keeping them clean is an indicator of professionalism and good hygiene. Many people take nail art to a whole different level with intricate designs and regular professional manicures. Even if you can’t afford to visit a nail salon every other week or so, you can still achieve beautifully-manicured nails with some at-home practices. Whether you prefer a minimalist, au naturel look or a more complex, stand-out design, there are ways to create your perfect look without breaking the bank. From homemade ointments that nourish your nails to learning ways to repair chipped polish, you can master this art at home.

Skin

Glowing, fresh skin feels as amazing as it looks. Your skin endures a lot throughout the day, and sometimes all of that work it does shows. Every person’s skin is unique and reacts differently to different elements and treatments, though, so it can be tricky to find the best method for looking its best. Luckily, there are also many credible skin systems as well as DIY hacks that you can test to find your sweet spot in skincare. With the right combination of care, your skin will be radiantly healthy in no time.

You always want to put your best self forward, and these beauty hacks will help you on your quest. Whether you want to try professional services or DIY methods or a mix of both – the world of health and beauty care is a fun adventure to explore.

The Nikon Z 85mm F1.8 S Weighs Over a Pound and Here’s Why

A Nikon Z 85mm f1.8 S could be music to the ears of any portrait photographer who has adored their lenses and, with today's announcement of the lens, other photographers could indeed be humming along to the tune. At the cost of $799.95, the new Nikon Z 85mm f1.8 S is giving photographers what could possibly be more than what Sony is offering in its most comparable offering. The Nikon Z 85mm f1.8 S weighs over a pound due to the extra elements. While the Sony 85mm f1.8 FE has nine elements in eight groups, the Nikon Z 85mm f1.8 S has 12 elements in eight groups. Like Sony, Nikon is also making their portrait lens weather sealed. In fact, Steve Heiner over at Nikon tells us, “The entire lens, including moving parts on the barrel, has been effectively sealed." The Nikon lens will be noticeably larger than the Sony offering if the specs we're reading are correct.

Behance’s Moodboard Feature is an Ethical Alternative to Pinterest

Whether it's for a personal project or a client shoot, a lot of photographers rely on moodboards to draw inspiration from the work of other creatives. Pinterest became a hugely popular "capturing" tool for this purpose, as well as for personal creative curation. However, it turns out that the social network is among the companies supporting Unsplash as a partner, and that could be a source of internal conflict for the ethical photographer. A solution to that comes from Behance, as the creative platform has reintroduced its Collections feature as Moodboards.

This Photographer Found Herself in the Most Important 37 of Hours Her Life

“I’m showcasing to the world that this young black man [Travis] was a person with a whole story and background that led to his precarious state of employment,” says Melissa “Bunni” Elian, a photojournalist based in New York. “I get to show people that individuals like him are valuable members of society and they are indeed trying their best.” In 2014 The Ground Truth Project assigned Melissa the task of reporting on economic hardship - with the focus being centered around young people from the Bronx. The assignment gave her the opportunity to work on something that aligned with her photographic voice. Hardship, struggle, oppression, and people of color are the main components of her visual storytelling. A focus that has been shaped heavily by her own experience, Melissa has been able to use photography to make changes to her own life and to those who all too often struggle to fulfill their potential.

Review: JPEGmini Capture One Plugin (You’ll Want It)

When we first reviewed JPEGmini, we were very happy with the results that it was able to give us. I never personally ended up using it though because of the fact that it couldn't integrate easily into Capture One Pro. But that's over now, and today there is a release for JPEGmini as a plugin for Capture One in addition to the announcement that it will finally be available for PC too. If you've ever seen the show Silicon Valley, think of JPEGmini as Pied Piper for images. It's an algorithm that heavily compresses images without a quality loss. For a publication like ours that regularly uploads 100 images roughly to reviews, JPEGmini is going to be a major space saver.

On Using the Fujifilm X Series of Cameras as a Journalist

The Fujifilm X series of cameras make for a solid companion for a photojournalist--but only if certain cameras are used along with certain lenses. If a photographer so chooses to work with those options available, then they'll find that the Fujifilm X system can be a fantastic option for a journalist working to earn a living. Sony arguably has the best option with its sensors all being stabilized and a variety of cameras that can do different things and offer a variety of features for different needs. But in the case of Fujifilm, that option isn't available. All of their cameras more or less have some iteration of the same sensor. To that end, different form factors and features are what separate one camera from the next.

Photography Cheat Sheet: White Balance Presets Guide

It may seem like a good idea to stick to the Auto white balance setting and let your camera figure things out on its own. One less setting to worry about, right? If you're consistently happy about your results, you may not find it necessary to change to another setting. However, it always helps to learn more about the other options that you can use, especially if you're shooting with artificial lighting or tricky lighting situations. For this, we bring yet another useful photography cheat sheet that you can use as a reference.

Gallery: Tamron 17-28mm F2.8 Di III RXD on the Sony a7r IV

Photographers looking for more affordable options to Sony's current lineup of zoom lenses may want to consider the fast aperture Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 Di III RXD to start. This lens, along with the 28-75mm f2.8, are options for photographers that don't want to break the bank or make the full jump into the G Master lineup of glass. During the recent Sony excursion, we took the Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 Di III RXD mounted on the Sony a7r IV around for some tests. The shoot with the model was done with our own lighting and we turned off the lights that Sony had set up.
