Dara Found the Perfect Winter Cardigan to Add to Her Knitwear Collection

I've been on a vintage kick lately. I want knits that look like they were plucked from the closet of a cool Parisian teen in the '70s and lingerie-inspired camisoles from the '90s. And while my new appetite for pre-loved garments has caused me to spend far too much time combing through online ...

Did Any of You Know About This Mechanical Automatic Lens Cap?

If there is an accessory that's harder to keep up with lens caps, then I'm not sure I want it. Lens caps are, of course, super important. They protect the front element of our expensive lenses from debris like dust, dirt, and sand, and they do a mighty fine job of protecting them from scratches when in storage. As great as they are, though, they can be a pain to keep up with and are easily lost. An image of a fully automatic screw-on lens cap recently appeared on the web though, and we wondered, just how many of you knew about it? Keep on reading after the break to see the ingenious design of this cap.

Review: Lenovo Yoga A940 All-In-One PC (Is it For Photographers?)

The Yoga A940 All-In-One Desktop PC is Lenovo's more affordable take on the Microsoft Surface Studio 2 concept designed with photographers and creative professionals in mind. Like the Surface Studio 2, the Lenovo Yoga A940 features a double-hinged high-resolution touch screen display attached to a base unit that houses the All-In-One's components. Unlike the Surface Studio, Lenovo actually integrated a dedicated keyboard tray and QI wireless charging pad into the Yoga A940's base unit. This makes for an arguably neater design, particularly if you like to store everything away neatly when not in use. Lenovo also includes all of the peripherals with the Yoga A940, which include a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, Bluetooth Active Pen, and a Content Creation Dial. The Content Creation Dial is Lenovo's spin on Microsoft's Surface Dial, an optional accessory for the Surface Studio 2 that costs US $99.99. All of this adds up to a compelling All-In-One desktop solution, but how's it fare under real-world use? Let's find out.

What You Need To Know To Start Quilting

Are you looking for a new hobby to develop? Quilting might be something that you want to try. It might seem intimidating at first, but it can be very fulfilling. If you are determined to start, you can visit QuiltersReview.com for some great tips that can assist you during the beginning of your quilting journey.

What You Need To Know To Start Quilting

You can also read on for some important information that you need to know before you start quilting.

  1. There are many types of quilting -There are so many types of quilts that you won’t run out of designs to do! You can go for a basic quilt where you just piece blocks of fabric together. An applique quilt, meanwhile, is different because you sew the pieces on top of a fabric that is larger. You can do a lot of things with this technique. You can even create a picture. Another type of quilt is a charm quilt, where you use a different type of fabric for every piece of the quilt. It can be a laborious task but you can be sure to come up with a completely unique piece.
  2. You need to familiarize yourself with the terms – While quilting is mainly a physical activity, you will still need to study and familiarize yourself with the terms that you will be encountering. Knowing the quilting terms will make it easier when you read instructional manuals, watch videos or enroll in quilting classes. Some of the terms you need to know include batting, backing fabric, etc.
  3. Investing in quality tools goes a long way – When buying the materials, don’t buy cheap ones. If you are serious about taking up quilting, then buy tools that are made to last. Some of the basic tools that you will be investing in include a self-healing mat, a quilting ruler, seam ripper, sewing scissors, thread, rotary cutter and pins for when you start piecing your quilt together. It’s also important to choose the right fabric. Don’t just get the first design that catches your eye. For beginners, the experts suggest that the best fabric for beginners is 100% cotton fabric.
  4. You don’ t need to tackle a big project right away – While there’s nothing wrong with creating a large quilt which you can pass on to your children, if you are just a beginner, it’s better to stick to small projects first. You can start with a cushion cover first before you move on to bigger projects. You should also master the basic designs and techniques first before you try more complicated projects. You can find many designs online for your first project.
  5. You will have to be patient – Quilting can be a time-consuming hobby. Unless you are only tackling small projects, expect to spend weeks or longer when quilting. It’s important to be patient. The most time-consuming part of a project would have to be cutting your fabric. It can feel tedious, but you need to be meticulous at this stage. Make sure that each piece matches with each other, or else the whole look of your quilt will mismatch.

First Impressions: Fujifilm 16-80mm f4 R WR OIS (A Great Zoom Lens!)

I never thought that a lens like the Fujifilm 16-80mm f4 R WR OIS would be made. But in retrospect, it's one of the most sensical lens options that the company made. This lens is small enough that a photographer would enjoy photo walking with it. But it's also convenient enough to give a professional a fair working range. At f4 on an APS-C sensor though, I'd argue that this lens should have been a faster aperture option. Combine with one of Fujifilm's camera options with image stabilization on the sensor, the Fujifilm 16-80mm f4 R WR OIS will do very well. But even on the older Fujifilm X-T2 that we used, the Fujifilm 16-80mm f4 R WR OIS produced beautiful results.

The Top Outdoor Design Trends to Look for in 2020

With the new year fast approaching, it’s time to start looking ahead to some of the top outdoor design trends set to make a splash in 2020. If you are considering hiring a paving contractor to help with your next hardscaping project and would like to be on the spear’s tip of outdoor design trends, here are the top outdoor design trends to look for in 2020.

The Top Outdoor Design Trends to Look for in 2020

Using Mixed Materials

One of the most attractive outdoor design trends that is quickly growing in popularity is the trend of designing a hardscape that makes use of multiple materials. For example, a patio that is built using patio pavers may be combined with a brick wall, wooden benches, and wicker outdoor furniture. This trend of mixing materials allows for plenty of creativity to create a landscape design that is entirely your own.

Elaborate Walkways

Building a paver walkway using interlocking concrete pavers is a great way to improve your landscape’s décor while also providing you with a useful, functional addition to your yard. In 2020, look for these walkways to become increasingly elaborate and aesthetically pleasing as homeowners choose to build walkways using patterned pavers and adorn them with flowers and other decorative items.

Outdoor Bars

Outdoor kitchens have been a staple in hardscaping for many years now. More and more, though, homeowners are choosing to install an outdoor bar on their patio instead. An outdoor bar makes for a very attractive addition to most any patio while also turning your patio into a much more enjoyable place to hang out with friends and family or host outdoor parties.

Decked-Out Patios

Now more than ever, homeowners are finally starting to take full advantage of the space offered by their patio by decking it out with furniture, televisions, planter walls, and more. If you are building a patio outside your home, be sure to make the most of it by decking it out with all of the creature comforts and attractive décor items necessary to turn an ordinary space into one that is truly enjoyable.

Planter Walls

Installing planter walls outside your home can give you plenty of extra space for growing your favorite plants while also serving as an attractive addition to your landscape in and of themselves. Thanks to these benefits, planter walls are rapidly growing in popularity and are poised to be one of the bigger outdoor design trends of 2020.

Take Your Landscape Design to the Next Level with the Top Outdoor Design Trends of 2020

With 2020 right around the corner, there are a number of exciting outdoor design trends on the horizon for homeowners to look forward to. If you would like to design an outdoor space that is truly unique, functional, and attractive, there are certainly plenty of outdoor design trends for you to use as inspiration. With a little planning and the right paving contractor to help, building the outdoor space of your dreams is something that is well within your reach.

Stories From Set: The Sexist Double Standard on a Photo Set

The photo assistant life is pretty iconic, right? You get to have all the fun of the shoot without the pressure of being the photographer, dealing with the client, managing post-production, etc. Essentially, all the pros without the cons. Sure, it also means being the go-for and putting your own ego/feelings aside. That comes with the territory and something I usually don’t mind. That said, when awful, sexist treatment comes into the equation, maintaining the balancing act of being a team player while also taking care of yourself becomes much more difficult. As discussed in previous articles from this series, frequently, the source of the problem is client-oriented. It’s a rock and a hard place situation when trying to figure out how to mitigate it. What’s even worse is when it’s a case of friendly fire - a most unexpected betrayal within the ranks in the pursuit of making powerful pictures.
