It would be fair to say that there are more than a few common problems associated with washing machines. Particularly if you are part of a large family – this is one appliance which is constantly in action. Should it fail, it feels like your household is gridlocked.
In truth, one could pen a dissertation on all of the different faults that can occur with the machines. This time, this guide is just going to concentrate on one of the most worrying – the one where water starts to escape. If you were to ask a company such as Service Force appliance repairs what some of their biggest queries were, there’s a chance that this would be very high on the list.
Suffice to say, it’s one of those times where everyone knows that something has started to go wrong. Fortunately, it doesn’t always have to result in the end of your appliance, as we take a look at some of the main reasons which can cause a leak in washing machines.
Door leaks
If you start to see water oozing out of the door, the first thought is usually that you have found quite a serious problem.
The good news is that in the worst-case scenario, you’ll turn to a new door seal. It can get better as well, there can be small problems such as excess detergent that just prevent the door from sealing properly – and ultimately allow water to escape.
Ultimately – you don’t need to worry too much. It’s one of those problems that seems much more severe than it really is.
Pump leaks
One problem which is a little more severe is when your pump starts to leak. Unfortunately, there are few occasions where you can “patch this up”. It’s generally not possible to buy individual seals to repair a leaky pump – meaning that the only solution is to turn to a completely new part.
Filter leaks
Something that you will have probably noticed through the bulk of this article is that a lot of leak problems relate to the seal. There is actually more than one seal in your washing machine – and one of these is found in the filter. If this part is damaged, it will mean that the filter starts to leak water through the appliance.
Drain pipe leaks
This is one of those problems that need to be resolved as soon as it is discovered. Otherwise, the leak can become significant.
This is also one of those issues which isn’t caused by the appliance itself. In this case, it will be because your drain pipe has become blocked and water has therefore started to back up.
Most people will be under the impression that the washing machine has developed a fault as the water is flowing back out through it. However, this is just a back flow – and the problem can usually be resolved if you unblock the drain in question.
