At this time of year, getting a good night’s sleep can be difficult; what with the excitement (or more realistically, stress) of Christmas coming up, and the changing temperature of the weather outside wreaking havoc on our sleeping patterns. But how can the atmosphere in your bedroom help with this?
Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most important things we can do to maintain our health, just one bad night’s sleep can affect our mood, concentration and alertness – but with research showing that more than a quarter of us (27%) experience a poor-quality sleep on a regular basis, it’s a good idea to focus on what could be impacting on this. Here, we look at a few bedroom interior design tips that could create a cosy atmosphere, getting you the well-earned sleep you deserve and hopefully leaving you feeling refreshed and revived in the mornings.
Bedroom Design
You spend around a third of your life in your bedroom, therefore creating a space that has been designed to be cosy as well as functional as a bedroom environment is important. If you’re thinking of adding seasonal touches to your bedroom this can easily be done, for example in winter the simple addition of some battery-operated fairy lights, or even a few cosy throws and cushions can create a much more welcoming environment for those colder evenings. Whilst in summer, switching these items up for a lighter duvet with new bed linen in lighter, cooler colours to encourage an environment to ensure you remain cool during the hot summer night’s will help maintain a good sleeping pattern.
Creating a cosy atmosphere that can react to changes in the weather is important, you don’t want to be creating a winter wonderland bedroom that is designed to keep you warm and being faced with the unpredictable British weather keeping you up at night because it’s unseasonably warm in the middle of winter.
The design of your bedroom should reflect your personality to make sure it enhances the way you feel when you enter it. It should be a relaxing atmosphere that can easily transition you to sleep, colours in your bedroom can affect
Bed Linen
Investing in quality bed linen that matches the design of your room will help to relax you in to a sleep state each evening, natural fibre cotton sheets will promote air flow and breathability so you can maintain a natural temperature throughout the night.
Mattress
Your mattress is one of the top things that could be affecting your good night’s sleep; you should be investing in a new mattress every 8-10 years, and if you can feel springs or experience aches throughout the night then it might be time to replace it sooner! Research shows that you should look to purchase a mattress that is four to five times the amount of your bedframe, whilst this might seem like a daunting amount, it is an investment that will see your overall health and wellbeing improve.
