Review: Olympus 12-100mm f4 PRO (Micro Four Thirds)

In absolutely so many ways, the Olympus 12-100mm f4 PRO lens is the only lens that you'll probably ever need if you're combining it with the company's fantastic higher end cameras. Micro Four Thirds camera owners who use this lens may never take it off unless they want something with a faster aperture. But time and time again, I was absolutely surprised by the output of this lens due to the way that it was constructed. It boasts weather sealing, a simple way to switch it into manual focus, image stabilization, and the ability to produce some beautiful image quality. It's designed for the landscape and travel photographer more than anything. And when you consider that the format is more or less based on a sensor that's around the size of 110 film then you can see just how far the system has come and evolved.

Review: Capture One 11 (A Blend of Lightroom and Photoshop in One Program)

I've been a Capture One convert for a while now as all our testing involves running RAW files and more through the program. It's simply a better piece of software than Lightroom is; and at this point both versions of Adobe Lightroom feel way too pedestrian for the type of work that I'm doing. In some ways, I want to relate to something that my late mother used to do. You see, we grew up in a household where my mom spent way too many hours in front of the television. So she tuned into Home and Garden TV and fell in love with doing a lot of stuff on the house. What that would mean is a whole lot of trips to Home Depot carrying many pounds of cement, plywood, sheetrock, plaster, and tons more in a 1997 Toyota Camry. It was honestly madness and it eventually drove the car to the point of breaking; literally. The fact is that a Toyota Camry wasn't designed to do that type of work; a Toyota Tundra on the other hand can do it with no problems at all. This synonymous to what I feel Adobe Lightroom and Capture One is; Lightroom is the paltry but reliable Camry for everyday needs while the Capture One is the Tundra that is designed for actual work. At a certain point, you're going to hit walls and realize that the software that you're using is rather subpar.

Why Fujifilm is Right for Me and I Left Nikon

My photographic journey was a long one, with many twists and turns that eventually landed me in the world of Fujifilm. The first time someone suggested I try out a Fujifilm camera, I laughed at them. I had shot with a clunky Nikon DSLRs for years, I couldn’t imagine that such a tiny and stylish camera could compete in its images. I first experienced photography by using 35mm film and developing and printing in a darkroom, and I was also told that Fujifilm cameras were the ‘digital version of film’. My blatant response to that was, “yeah, right”. I was quickly proven wrong.
